Jul 10, 2023

G2 Ocean is becoming a new member of the International Cargo Handling Coordination Association to advance safety and operational best practices across the cargo handling chain.

As part of G2 Ocean’s commitment to providing a safe and healthy work environment and achieving zero injuries in its operations, the company is joining the International Cargo Handling Coordination Association (ICHCA International) as a new member.

Established in 1952, ICHCA International is an independent, non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the safety, productivity and efficiency of cargo handling and movement worldwide.

By partnering with ICHCA International, G2 Ocean will be able to collaborate with other industry leaders to advance safety and operational best practices across the cargo handling chain.

“We view our membership of ICHCA as an opportunity to seek and share insights on safety. Together, we can create safer working conditions for crew and stevedores in all the ports where we operate,” said Phil Curran, Managing Director Operations at G2 Ocean.

G2 Ocean is committed to achieving zero incidents in its operations and aims to be a safety leader in the open hatch segment. This will require close collaboration with all our stakeholders, including stevedoring companies and terminals.

As part of its commitment to safety, G2 Ocean has implemented a number of safety best practices, including conducting regular safety training for all employees, arranging safety workshops with suppliers and completing frequent cargo handling inspections. ICHCA is proud to be welcoming G2 Ocean to its membership network.

“Once more the addition of a member to ICHCA who has an avowed commitment to safety and is proactively investigating the mechanics of day-to-day improvements is cause for celebration,” said Richard Steele, ICHCA’s CEO.

Key to ICHCA’s successful past safety initiatives and central to all its future efforts is collaboration, raising standards in unity. The Association’s primary goal is to extend its collective expertise, ensuring both the broadest possible knowledge of safety challenges in every aspect of cargo handling and providing a forum for the concerted will to find mutual solutions.

“G2 Ocean’s accession to such a group of like-minded enterprises has to be good news for our achievement of such goals,” concluded Steele.
