G2 Ocean safely transports 367 metric tons reactor from Rotterdam to Houston

In July 2023, G2 Ocean safely transported a 367 metric tons reactor from Rotterdam, Netherlands, to Houston, Texas, on the general cargo vessel Star Istind.

The cargo was 10 metres wide, 7.76 metres deep, and 7.38 metres high. Due to the large size and weight of the cargo, two floating cranes were used to load the piece at the Port of Rotterdam. The cargo was safely discharged at the Port of Houston on July 23.

“This is a significant accomplishment for our team and demonstrates our commitment to providing our customers with the highest level of service and expertise,” says Scott Krantzcke, Managing Director of the Atlantic region at G2 Ocean.

Careful planning

The shipment was completed due to careful planning, coordination, and collaboration among G2 Ocean's project cargo, operational, commercial, and technical departments.

“Cross-collaboration between all stakeholders is essential when transporting heavy lifts of this magnitude,” says Daniel Tisell, Regional Project Cargo Director.

“This project demonstrates our expertise in the transportation and logistics industry. Our vessels are versatile, and we have the knowledge and ability to handle even the most complex and challenging projects,” says Daniel.

Cliff Kuhfeldt, Senior Project Cargo Manager, agrees and says planning is key to ensuring successful shipments of complex cargoes.

“There are many factors that must be taken into consideration including vessel space, stability calculations, lashing/securing calculations, lifting plans, method statements, certified lifting apparatuses, terminal capabilities, pre- and post-methods of secondary transport and risk management.”

Several people across functions work collaboratively to develop a solution that met the unique needs and requirements of the customer.

“The exclusive members of the Deugro Projects India Pvt Ltd, with the partnership of G2 Ocean and other stakeholders, ensured the successful delivery of this critical component. Through our partnerships and service excellence, we can pass this professionalism on to our highly valued clients," says Gert Jensen Senior Vice President Operations at Deugro.

Proud

G2 Ocean is proud to have exceeded Deugro’s expectations and delivered a successful project.

“This operation was a true team effort, and we are proud of the hard work and dedication that our team put into making it a success,” says Daniel, adding:

“We have been working on this cargo for nearly 18 months and to finally see the collaborative efforts materialise into a historical operation for G2 Ocean is an accomplishment worth celebrating. We couldn’t be more excited as a team and for the company.”
