Star Norge loads first pulp cargo in Paranaguá, Brazil

G2 Ocean has completed the first pulp loading operation for Star Norge, a recently delivered newbuild that has joined the company’s fleet, in Paranaguá, Brazil.

The vessel loaded 14,200 tonnes of pulp in Paranaguá before continuing to Santos and onward to Asia. This is the first voyage from Brazil following delivery from the shipyard in January.

“This marks the start of our pulp operations for a new vessel series designed to carry larger cargo volumes more efficiently. This helps us meet customer demand while reducing fuel consumption and emissions per tonne transported. The vessels are also prepared for the use of alternative fuels as they become available,” says Arthur English, CEO at G2 Ocean.

A new vessel class entering service

Star Norge belongs to G2 Ocean’s largest vessel class, the N-class, with a length of 225 metres, a carrying capacity of up to 82,300 tonnes and crane capacity ranging from 75 to 120 tonnes.

The operation in Paranaguá demonstrates how the vessel’s design and port infrastructure together support more efficient logistics:

  • Star Norge’s cargo capacity enables larger cargo volumes per voyage

  • Fewer voyages contribute to lower overall transport costs and emissions

  • Improved cargo handling supports operational efficiency

  • Recent infrastructure investments in Paranaguá, including deeper access channels, have enabled larger vessels such as Star Norge to operate at the port

“For G2 Ocean, this creates the conditions to use larger and more capable vessels on key trade routes, particularly in the pulp segment,” says English.

Strengthening key trade routes from Brazil

Pulp and other forestry products are G2 Ocean’s largest cargo segment, accounting for nearly 47% of volumes in 2025, while South America is the company’s second-largest market after Asia.

This makes Star Norge’s first pulp loading in Paranaguá for Asia particularly relevant, as it demonstrates how recently added fleet capacity can support one of G2 Ocean’s most important cargo flows in one of its most important markets.

“Beyond gains in sustainability, capacity, and loading efficiency, this fleet renewal also brings greater reliability to Klabin’s operations, ensuring access to stronger assets to support our shipments—especially to international markets, notably Europe and Asia,” says Roberto Bisogni, Director of Operational Planning and Logistics at Klabin—Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper, leader in corrugated packaging, and a reference in market pulp, including hardwood, softwood, and fluff pulp.

For customers in Brazil and across South America, access to larger vessels means more efficient transport solutions and increased capacity on key export routes. This is particularly important for forestry cargo flows, where reliability, scale and port access all matter in supporting customer supply chains.

Looking ahead

Star Norge is the first in a series of ten vessels in this vessel class that will be introduced to G2 Ocean’s fleet over the next two years.

As additional vessels enter service, the company will continue to expand capacity while preparing for evolving fuel and regulatory requirements.

“This development supports G2 Ocean’s focus on maintaining reliable, flexible, safe and sustainable transport solutions for our customers,” English at G2 Ocean concludes.
