G2 Ocean’s Star Nordkapp sets industry record for largest wood pulp shipment

Newly delivered Star Nordkapp loads a record 77,210 tonnes of wood pulp in Santos on its first cargo operation in South America.
G2 Ocean’s open hatch vessel Star Nordkapp completed the loading of Suzano wood pulp at the Port of Santos, Brazil, on 24 September. To G2 Ocean’s knowledge, the 77,210-tonne cargo is the largest volume of wood pulp ever loaded onto a single vessel.
The operation also marked Star Nordkapp’s first cargo loading in South America following its delivery to G2 Ocean’s fleet in April 2026. The vessel is owned by Grieg Maritime Group, one of G2 Ocean’s shareholders and pool participants.
The cargo loading operation began at Suzano’s Terminal 32, where 27,210 tonnes were taken on board, and was completed at DP World Santos with a further 50,000 tonnes. The total surpassed Suzano's previous record of approximately 72,000 tonnes of wood pulp loaded onto a single vessel at the Port of Santos..
The cargo was shipped to Qingdao and Tianjin in China.
“This record reflects the strength of our long-standing partnership with Suzano and the close coordination between the terminals, vessel owner, crew and our teams. Achieving this on Star Nordkapp’s first cargo operation in South America demonstrates how our specialised vessels and operational expertise help customers move large cargo volumes reliably and respond to their evolving logistics needs,” said Arthur English, Chief Executive Officer of G2 Ocean.

Star Nordkapp’s carrying capacity of approximately 82,000 tonnes enables G2 Ocean to meet customer needs by transporting larger cargo volumes in a single voyage, improving cost efficiency and reducing emissions per tonne of pulp transported compared with moving the same volume across multiple voyages.
“Efficiently delivering the pulp we produce to our customers in different parts of the world is an essential part of our competitiveness. When we are able to consolidate more volume into a single voyage, we achieve economies of scale and make better use of each operation. This result reflects the integrated planning of our teams, the terminals and the shipowner, and demonstrates how we continue to improve the way we bring to market a product that originates from cultivated trees and is transformed into items used every day by millions of people,” said Renan Volpatto, Suzano’s Executive Logistics Manager.
About Star Nordkapp
Star Nordkapp is one of 10 N-class vessels scheduled to join G2 Ocean’s fleet between 2026 and 2029. The vessels are being delivered by their owners, Grieg Maritime Group and Gearbulk.
Each N-class vessel is 225 metres long, has a beam of 36 metres and can carry approximately 82,000 tonnes, subject to operational restrictions and conditions at the destination ports.
The vessels have several technological advances, including fully electric slewing cranes with safe working load capacities ranging from 75 to 120 tonnes. These cranes support the safe and efficient handling of a wide range of industrial cargoes.
