Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has again ranked G2 Ocean among the top shipping companies in the world to reduce air emissions and conserve energy in the city’s port.

The Blue Circle Award is annually granted to marine carriers and terminal operators that excel in environmental management at the Port of Vancouver.

This is the tenth year the award is given by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, and the second year in a row G2 Ocean receives it. Chartering Director Audun Baardsen was honoured to receive the award on behalf of the company.

“I am proud that we, as a fairly new company, have received this award on every occasion since the beginning of G2 Ocean. Again, we have shown that we go above and beyond requirements imposed by authorities to reduce air emissions and the impact port operations have on the environment”, he says.

High priority

G2 Ocean is part of the port’s EcoAction Program and the award recognises partners who voluntary reach the highest level of participation in this programme and the Energy Action Initiative.

“G2 Ocean strives to deliver sustainable shipping solutions to our clients, communities and the environment. This is at the core of our business and has been since we started the company two years ago”, says Baardsen.

G2 Ocean also participates in the voluntary ECHO programme, where the aim is to protect the Southern Resident Killer Whales by slowing down the speed of ships to reduce underwater noise.

Twenty-three recipients

Fourteen shipping lines, two cruise lines, four coastal marine operators, and three terminal operators received the award from Robin Silvester, president and chief executive officer at the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority on June 7.

“We are committed to reducing the impact of port operations on the environment and on our neighbouring communities and are proud of the environmental leadership demonstrated by our terminal, shipping, and industry partners,” said Silvester.
